No se puede hablar de una lista de las mejores canciones alternativas de la década sin mencionar a  Mike Shinoda (tecladista/rapero/guitarrista) y la colaboración del cantante Chester Bennington --El rapeo deliverado de Shinoda junto al poderoso canto de Bennington. 'In the End' es probablemente el dúo mas reconozido (como tambien lo son 'Runaway' y 'Crawling'), ellos cantan acerca de una persona quien a perdido fé en una relación -- ya sea romantica o amistosa: "What it meant to me (que significa para mi)/ will eventually be a memory(eventualmente será un recuerdo) / of a time when I tried so hard (del tiempo, traté mucho)/ And got so far(llegué lejos) / But in the end It doesn't even matter."(pero al final eso no te importó)
